Omaru Hostel was in the same building as the former Omaru Receiving Home. According to files held by the Department of Health and Human Services, the children in the Receiving Home moved to Casablanca Receiving Home in May 1968 because it was a 'more modern and suitable building'.
A married couple ran Omaru Hostel in exchange for free accommodation. The boys paid them board.
