Closed C50 years
C50 means that, except to particular groups, these records are closed for 50 years from the date of the last entry in them. People wishing to access them should contact the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. Staff at the Tasmanian Archive and Heritage Office may be able to assist you in finding other relevant records.
Although the Tasmanian Archive and Heritage Office gives 1971 as the final date, the last entry was actually written in 1960.
The file includes correspondence about the extent to which state and Commonwealth governments would support children who arrived under the parent following scheme. It shows that the Overseas League was to arrange the parents' migration and find them work in Tasmania, and the reluctance of the Fairbridge Society to return children to their parents. It also shows that after the Society opened Tresca, it planned to establish another Home on the North-West coast. This did not happen.
The file includes newspaper clippings.
