Tasmanian Minister for Children, Michelle O’Byrne, has urged any remaining individuals who suffered abuse while in state care to come forward before the successful redress scheme closes to new applicants next month.

Today in the Tasmanian Parliament, the Premier Lara Giddings delivered a formal apology to people affected by past forced adoption policies in Tasmania. Liberal leader Will Hodgman and Nick McKim of the Greens also apologised, in front of an audience of 100 people at Parliament House.

A new national network of support services for Forgotten Australians and Former Child Migrants was launched by Jenny Macklin, the Minister for Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, at Open Place in Victoria on Friday 17 August 2012.
