Summary

The Hermannsburg mission was founded by Lutheran missionaries in 1877. It continued until 1982 when the lease on the land was finally surrendered and the land returned to Aboriginal people. Shortly after arriving, the missionaries gathered the Aboriginal children daily for schooling, with the promise of rations afterwards.
