A faith-based organisation that provides social and other forms of support to the needy. Missions tend to the spiritual and physical needs of the poor, destitute and vulnerable.
Missions continue to operate shelters and social services across Australia, including in cities. With Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, the word mission has a specific meaning, as a residential settlement or institution.
