St Joseph's Orphanage, Bathurst
The Notification of Reception Books is a series of records created by St Joseph's Orphanage, Bathurst (Girls' Home). The series is made up of one volume containing handwritten completion of forms to comply with the provisions of the Infant Protection Act, No 27, 1904. The records contain information including: Name of Place; Address; Date of Reception; Name of Infant in full; Register Folio Number; Name and Address of Mother; Birthplace of Child; Religion of Child; Date of Birth; Date of Registration of Birth; If placed with any person to nurse before this notification, Name and Address of such Person; Why Admitted; Condition of Mother; If Able to Support; Amount (if any) being paid for the maintenance of the Child in an Institution. They are managed by the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of Australia and Papua New Guinea (ISMAPNG).
Application for access must be made, in writing, to the Archivist, providing personal identification documents to establish the right to access information. Physical access to the records is not permitted due to their fragility and the need to protect the confidentiality of information concerning other persons. Information will be forwarded by mail.
