This Series of records was created by Croagh Patrick Orphanage, Orange (Boys' Home). This Series is made up of two volumes covering the period 1959 to 1970 and containing handwritten completion of Forms to comply with the provisions of the Child Welfare Act 1939 (Regulation 42).

Access Conditions

Application for access must be made, in writing, to the Archivist, providing personal identification documents to establish the right to access information. Physical access to the records is not permitted due to their fragility and the need to protect the confidentiality of information concerning other persons. Information will be forwarded by mail.

Records

The Notification of Reception Books are managed by the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of Australia and Papua New Guinea (ISMAPNG). ISMAPNG formed out of the consolidation of 14 of the 17 congregations of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy in Australia, and from the region of Papua New Guinea. This included the Bathurst Congregation, which ran the Croagh Patrick Orphanage from 1969 until it closed down in 1982. Prior to 1969, the Croagh Patrick Orphanage was run by the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul, and was known as the Croagh Patrick Home.

The information in the Registers in this Series includes: Date of Reception of child, Child's full name, Child's Date of Birth, Place of Birth, Child's religion; Name, marital status, address and occupation of Mother, Father's address and occupation, Name of Person from whom child was received, their address, and the Date when child was Received, Particulars of arrangements made by the parent for child's maintenance; signature of Custodian.
