The Director of Native Affairs was the head of the Native Affairs Branch from 1939 to 1953. This position was created as a result of the passing of the Aboriginals Ordinance 1939. Under this legislation the position of Chief Protector Aborigines was abolished and replaced by the Director of Native Affairs. The first Director was Ernest Chinnery.
