The Institute of Sisters of Mercy of Australia and Papua New Guinea (ISMAPNG) Archives and Heritage Centre holds the archival and heritage collections of the ISMAPNG. The ISMAPNG collections include the records of the former Sisters of Mercy congregations: Adelaide, Ballarat East, Bathurst, Cairns, Goulburn, Grafton, Gunnedah, Melbourne, Papua New Guinea, Perth, Rockhampton, Singleton, Townsville, West Perth and Wilcannia-Forbes. In 2019, ISMAPNG merged its five Archives and Heritage Centres to a central location in Sydney.

Details

Since the Institute of Sisters of Mercy of Australia and Papua New Guinea was formed in 2012 the Archives and Heritage Services, and their associated collections, have been merged.

During the initial stages of combining the archives of the 15 Sisters of Mercy congregations which formed ISMAPNG, five Archives and Heritage Centres were established:

  • Institute Centre Stanmore, NSW
  • Community North in Rockhampton, QLD
  • Community South C in Alphington, VIC
  • Community South A in Mile End, SA
  • Community South A in Perth, WA

Additionally, there was the Mercy Heritage Centre Perth, WA which held collections of photographs and memorabilia.

In 2019, these Archives and Heritage Services, and the Mercy Heritage Centre, Perth were closed and the collections were moved to a single ISMAPNG Archives and Heritage Centre based in Sydney. All records related to children's homes and institutions run by the Sisters of Mercy in the 15 congregations are held in this central location.
