The Prisoners Act (No 17 of 19 Vic, 1855-6) was passed and commenced on18 June 1856. Its full title was: An Act to provide for the punishment, custody, and employment of Prisoners sentenced to hard labour and penal servitude. It was repealed by the Prisons Act 1869 on 9 February 1870.
