Summary
The Premier of Tasmania - Proposals Child Migration, a file held by the National Archives of Australia, contains a plan for child migration to Tasmania put forward by the Premier, Robert Cosgrove. He was influenced by public discussion of immigration following World War 2. Cosgrove suggested setting-up a Department of Child Migration. He envisaged cottage homes, similar to those of the Fairbridge scheme, being attached to Tasmanian Area Schools to house the children. The plan reflects the romanticism surrounding child migration at the time.
