An Act to provide for responsible parenting agreements and responsible parenting orders, to make consequential mendments to the Children's Court of Western Australia Act 1988 and the Young Offenders Act 1994, and for related purposes.

Objects
(1) The objects of this Act are -
(a) to acknowledge and support the primary role of parents
in safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of children; and (b) to support and reinforce the role and responsibility of
parents to exercise appropriate control over the
behaviour of their children.
(2) For the purposes of this section, responsibility includes but isnot limited to all the duties, powers, responsibilities and
authority which, by law, parents have in relation to children.

The Parental Support and Responsibility Act 2008 (the PSR Act) came into operation on 28 March 2009. The PSR Act sets out a scheme for agencies to support parents in addressing their parental responsibilities. Under the scheme, agencies endeavour to achieve the voluntary engagement of parents through a responsible parenting agreement (RPA), so they are supported in working to better manage their child's behaviour. Where the voluntary engagement of parents is not successful, an application for a responsible parent order may be made to the Children's Court if it considered to be in the best interests of the child to do so.
