This table of statistics was originally published in the 2004 edition of Signposts.
Each year, the Child Welfare Department gave a report on its activities to the Parliament of Western Australia. People or institutions who fostered children under the age of six years had to be licensed by the Department, and the number of children in their 'care' was usually included in the Annual Report. The Alexandra Home statistics show how many children were reported in this category for the years 1936 to 1959.
