According to the website for Wesley Mission's 200th anniversary, in 1977 Wesley Mission set up the Wesley James Home. In 1980, responding to the needs of Vietnamese refugees, it converted the former Francis Street Men's Hostel in the Sydney CBD to a hostel for 40 orphaned Vietnamese boys. In 1984 it set up Barnett Cottage at Mt Druitt as an emergency service for children and Freeman Cottage at Abbotsford opened as a family group home.
