The Adoption Act 2009 repealed the Adoption of Children Act 1964. The Act provides for the adoption of children in Queensland, and for access to information about parties to adoptions in Queensland, in a way that: promotes the wellbeing and best interests of adopted persons throughout their lives; and supports efficient and accountable practice in the delivery of adoption services; and complies with Australia’s obligations under the Hague convention. This act has the full title “An Act to make provision about the adoption of children and to make related amendments of the Adoption of Children Act 1964, the Births, deaths and Marriages Registration Act 2003 and the Child Protection Act 1999 and to make consequential amendments of other Acts as stated in schedule 2” (Act no. 29/2009) and as of November 2014 was still current.
