The Queensland State Archives web site described the function of the Health and Home Affairs Department as follows:
The functions of the Health and Home Affairs Department were divided into two broad jurisdictions: Health and Medical Services Branch and Home Affairs. The Department was under the control of the Secretary for Health and Home Affairs from 5 December 1935 to 12 Austust 1957, then the Minister for Health and Home Affairs from 12 August 1957 to 26 September 1963.
'In 1963 the role of the Home Affairs Department was split between a number of agencies, and the office was abolished. A separate health Department under a Minister responsible only for Health was established.'
