The Alliance for Forgotten Australians (AFA) was established in 2006 in response to the 'Forgotten Australians' report. Laurie Humphreys was a founding member of the Alliance for Forgotten Australians and the inaugural Chairman of FACT (Forgotten Australians Coming Together), formed in 2009 in WA.
Humphreys had been involved in advocacy work for former child migrants and Forgotten Australians since the early 2000s, when he made submissions to inquiries being conducted by the British House of Commons and the Australian Senate. Laurie was born in England on 4 July 1933 and entered an orphanage as a 4 year old. At the age of 14, in August 1947, he left England for Australia as a child migrant and spent 3 years at Bindoon in WA. Humphreys died in May 2012.
