Young House was established in the early 1980s by the Albany Youth Support Association Inc. Since that time, it has offered emergency accommodation for young people aged 15-25 years at premises located in central Albany. By at least 2001, that emergency accommodation was available on a 24 hour basis. Youth have been placed or referred to Young House by the departments responsible for child welfare, but referrals are not necessary for admission if youth present in a crisis. Young people may also have been referred by other non-government welfare agencies.
