The aim of the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle is to ensure that Aboriginal children in 'care' are placed with Aboriginal families and raised in a culturally appropriate environment. From the late 1970s, the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle gradually became part of state child welfare and adoption legislation as well as departmental and organisational policy.
