The Forgotten Children is a superb account of life in the Fairbridge Scheme, with information about daily life at the Fairbridge Farm School at Molong and some memories of homes in other states, including Clarendon Church of England Home (Tasmania); Northcote Home in Victoria; Fairbridge Farm School Pinjarra and the Christian Brothers' home Bindoon (Western Australia).
Hill has drawn on the memories of many former child migrants, both positive and negative, and the author's own recollections. Hill considers all sides to a complex story, and takes into account a range of perspectives. The book provides a good sense of the workings of the British Child Emigration Society and the London and New South Wales Fairbridge Societies, the Overseas Migration Board, and the One Parent Scheme.
The Forgotten Children is also available in audio-book form.
