  • Description

A letter to the editor of The Sydney Morning Herald from Charles Mackellar, President of the State Children's Relief Board, in which he outlines his objections to a comment made by Archbishop Kelly that St Vincent's Westmead was superior to 'the State Home at Mittagong', which had 'prison conditions, where nearly every child had a policeman's hand on his shoulder'.

Mackellar includes a copy of a letter he wrote to Cardinal Moran, complaining about Kelly and pointing out the steps the State Children's Relief Board took to preserve children's religious heritage and care for their spiritual welfare, and provide home-like care to the children living in the cottages.
