The Child Welfare (Amendment) Act 1966 was 'An Act to amend the law relating to the payment of allowances in respect of children, young persons and others; to provide for the licensing of certain persons providing facilities for the caring of children; for these and other purposes to amend the Child Welfare Act, 1939-1965, in certain respects'. It regulated the payment of State allowances to people who ran boarding houses, homes and other public child welfare institutions, and licenced them. It separated childcare centres and day care centres from more permanent Homes. It allowed children to be made state wards if an officer or person in charge of a depot, home or hostel thought the welfare of the child may be promoted. If made a ward in this way, the child could be apprenticed, boarded out, placed out or placed as an adopted boarder. It was repealed by the Miscellaneous Acts (Community Welfare) Repeal and Amendment Act 1987.
