The Foster Care and Group Home Personal Files are held by Anglicare Out-of-Home Care Services. The files date back to 1930. They are arranged alphabetically by surname of the child in care. The type and amount of information available on the files may vary from case to case. In general, the files contain personal information about the child and the parents and foster parents, health forms and medical reports, psychiatric reports, school reports, file notes and correspondence.
Access to information contained in these records is restricted to ex-clients, or to a member of an ex-client's family providing they have the written permission of that person. Before information is given out it is checked for anything which may cause distress and if necessary a counsellor is called in. People applying to get access to information must provide proof of identity.
