The Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 (157/1998) was 'An Act to provide for the care and protection of, and the provision of services to, children and young persons'. This is the Act that created the contemporary system of child protection in New South Wales. It was, in 2014, the legislation underpinning of the operations of the Department of Family and Community Services.
