The Bringing Them Home Oral History project is a collection of interviews with members of the Stolen Generations, Aboriginal people affected by child removal policies. It also included interviews with people involved in the process such as welfare officers, police officers, missionaries and institutional staff. The interviews were recorded between 1998 and 2002. They relate to missions and institutions across Australia.
Some interviews from the Bringing Them Home Oral History Project are available to listen to online in cases where interviewees have given their permission for this to happen. Other recordings and transcripts of interviews are available to in the Library. A number of interviews are subject to restricted access. For further information, please contact the National Library.
The Bringing Them Home Oral History project collection comprises 736 digital audio recordings. Many of these have been transcribed or summarized. Some interviews are available to listen to online. The project was funded by the Commonwealth Government as a result of recommendations made by the 1997 National Inquiry into the Separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children from their families. It also included interviews with people involved in the process such as welfare officers, police officers, missionaries and institutional staff. The interviews were recorded between 1998 and 2002. They relate to missions and institutions across Australia.
