The Crime and Misconduct Commission was a statutory agency, independent of the government of the day but accountable to the Parliament through the all-party Parliamentary Crime and Misconduct Committee. The Commission also reported to the Minister for Justice on its efficiency and effectiveness. Its role was to combat major crime, promote public sector integrity and protect witnesses. In 2014 the Crime and Misconduct Commission was restructured and renamed the Crime and Corruption Commission.

Details

The CMC was established on 1 January 2002 with the merger of the former Criminal Justice Commission and Queensland Crime Commission. Its jurisdiction covered government departments and statutory authorities, the Queensland Police Service, government-owned corporations, universities, local governments, courts, prisons, and politicians in certain circumstances. In 2014, following the passing of the Crime and Misconduct and Other Legislation Ammedment Act 2014, the CMC was restructured and transitioned into a new service called the Crime and Corruption Commission.
