The Lutheran Church of Australia was first established by German Lutherans in South Australia in 1838. Lutheran churches were later founded in Victoria and Queensland. A smaller number of German Lutherans moved to Tasmania, New South Wales and Western Australia.The Lutheran Church has a history as a care provider in Queensland through the establisment of Aboriginal Missions.
