The Catholic Family Welfare Bureau was established in 1942 as an overarching social welfare agency of the Catholic Church in South Australia. The Bureau oversaw the running of Catholic institutions run by different religious orders. It also developed policies in relation to child care and coordinated the placement of children in Catholic Homes. The Catholic Family Welfare Bureau became Centacare Catholic Family Services in 1992.
