The Whiteleys completed the research for this book in the 1960s and their manuscript was deposited in the Battye Library. Keith Bostock, the editor, considers that this research 'is still the most complete manuscript on the subject of the early colonial military history of Western Australia to date.' Bostock observes that the book does represent the 'authors' opinions as of the 1960s' but it was a useful resource for Find & Connect WA because it gives information (pages 33-34) about the early history in the colony of Captain T.T. Ellis, later Superintendent of Natives.
