'Sister Kate' is a poem from the Western Mail newspaper. The poet is from Greenbushes, the town where children from Sister Kate's home in Queen's Park were evacuated during World War Two. The poem celebrates the commonly-held value that some children needed to be 'rescued'. In the poem, Sister Kate is portrayed as a good Christian woman who would 'never let a sparrow fall' and who called on the community to give support children in need.
