State of Western Australia
The Parliament in Western Australia dates from 1832. A Legislative Council was established on 1 January 1832 to make laws and establish courts in the Crown Colony of Western Australia. When responsible government was proclaimed in 1890, the Colony of Western Australia established a Parliament with two houses - the Legislative Assembly ('lower house') and the Legislative Council ('upper house'). Parliament retained this structure when the State was established in 1901.
