Director of Mental Health Services was a position responsible for mental health hospitals and services in Western Australia from July 1966 to July 1984. Although by the 1960s it was less common to place children with intellectual and other disabilities in mental health institutions, the practice was not entirely discontinued until all children were finally moved from Swanbourne Hospital to Sussex Hostel in December 1977.
