Details
Insanity was a cause for admission to a lunatic asylum or a hospital for the insane. Children and young people could be found to be insane by medical practioners. Reasons included demonstrating or apparently having 'dirty habits, violent impulses, or no reasoning powers and appearing brute-like'.
