Kartanup was established in 1987 as an annexe of St Andrew's Hostel, Katanning, and provided additional accommodation for school-age boarders who attended school in Katanning. Kartanup was under the authority of the Country High School Hostels Authority. It closed around 1990.
Kartanup, an annexe of St Andrew's Hostel, Katanning, provided boarding facilities for children going to school in Katanning from 1987.
It was housed in premises that had previously been the government-run hostel Kartanup Hostel (1970-1984) and then the Westrek youth employment project (1985-1986?). During the period that Westrek was housed in the Kartanup building, local school teachers often boarded there and tutored St Andrew's Hostel students in the evenings.
In 2012, an incident relating to one of the boarders was raised at the Special Inquiry into St Andrew's Hostel, Katanning.
Kartanup closed around 1990.
The building continues to be used in Katanning but no longer offers out of home care. It is known as 'Reidy House'.
