The Adoption of Children Amendment Act, 1971 ensured that people who had been adopted as children had equal rights to inherit along with their siblings who had been 'naturally born' into the family. The role of the Director of child welfare in guardianship was also clarified and the criteria for determining suitability to adopt were outlined.
