National Redress Scheme

Closes 30 June 2027

The National Redress Scheme was established following recommendations from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, for people who experienced institutional child sexual abuse.

NSW Stolen Generations Reparations Scheme 

Closes June 30 2023

This scheme provides ex-gratia payments to living Stolen Generations survivors who were removed by, committed to, or otherwise came into the care of the New South Wales Aborigines Protection or Welfare Boards under the Aborigines Protection Act 1909, up until the Act was repealed on 2 June 1969.

Territories Stolen Generations Redress Scheme

Closes 28 February 2026

The Territories Stolen Generations Redress Scheme is a financial and wellbeing package that makes payments in recognition of the harm caused by removal from family or community. The scheme provides support to Stolen Generations survivors who were removed from their families or communities in the Northern Territory, before 1 July 1978, the Australian Capital Territory, before 11 May 1989 or the Jervis Bay Territory.

Victorian Stolen Generations Reparations Package 

Closes 31 March 2027

Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people who were first removed from Victoria aged under 18 by a government or non-government agency before 31 December 1976, for a period of time that resulted in the experience of loss of family, community, Culture, identity and language.

Payment scheme for former British child migrants 

This scheme is open to any former British child migrant who was alive on 1 March 2018 or the beneficiaries of any former child migrant who was alive on 1 March 2018 and has since passed away. Applicants must have been sent from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man under the age of 16 and prior to 1971 to be eligible.

Victorian Forced Adoption Redress Scheme

Begins 2023 – Hardship Fund available prior for exceptional circumstances.

In March 2022 The Victorian Government announced a scheme to include financial compensation, counselling and psychological support for mothers who had their babies forcibly removed for adoption. A steering committee will design the scheme within 12 months of this announcement, however a $500,000 hardship fund has been established for mothers in exceptional circumstances, including those who are terminally ill.
