The New South Wales Stolen Generations Reparations Scheme was established in 2017. It was created in response to the New South Wales government's 2016 report, Unfinished Business, which recommended that a reparations scheme be established.

Details

The Stolen Generations Reparations Scheme provides ex-gratia payments of $75,000 to "living Stolen Generations survivors who were removed by, committed to, or otherwise came into the care of the New South Wales Aborigines Protection or Welfare Boards under the Aborigines Protection Act 1909, up until the Act was repealed on 2 June 1969".

A funeral assistance fund is also available and provides a one-off payment of $7000 to Stolen Generations survivors to assist with the cost of funerals.

Applicants can also request an apology from a representative of the New South Wales government.

The Scheme is administered by Aboriginal Affairs NSW. The Scheme is due to run for 5 years and applications can be submitted until 30 June 2023.
