Case Study 11: Christian Brothers was a public hearing of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, held in Perth from April to May 2014. It inquired into the experiences of former child residents at Castledare Junior Orphanage, St Vincent’s Orphanage Clontarf, St Mary’s Agricultural School Tardun, and Bindoon Farm School. During the hearings evidence was heard from former residents of Castledare, Clontarf, Bindoon, and Tardun, as well as from solicitors, former and current leaders of the Christian Brothers, and a representative from the Department of Child Protection and Family Support.
In December 2014, the Royal Commission subsequently published its findings in the Report of Case Study No. 11: Congregation of Christian Brothers in Western Australia response to child sexual abuse at Castledare Junior Orphanage, St Vincent’s Orphanage Clontarf, St Mary’s Agricultural School Tardun and Bindoon Farm School. The webpage for Case Study 11 published on the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse website includes the final report for Case Study 11, transcriptions of each day of the public hearing, exhibits and submissions related to the Case Study, and a list of witnesses who gave evidence during the Case Study.
