Case Study 42: Anglican Diocese of Newcastle, was a public hearing of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, held in Newcastle and Sydney in August and November, 2016. It inquired into the Anglican Diocese of Newcastle, and included the experiences of former child residents at St Alban’s Boys’ Home, St Alban’s Family Group Home, St Christopher’s Home for Little Children, Taree, and possibly also of Woodlands Home. During the hearings evidence was heard from survivors and their families, as well as from former youth workers, former bishops, and other members of the clergy in the Anglican Diocese of Newcastle.
In November 2017, the Royal Commission subsequently published its findings in the Report of Case Study No. 42: The responses of the Anglican Diocese of Newcastle to instances and allegations of child sexual abuse. The webpage for Case Study 42 published on the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse website includes the final report for Case Study 42 and a list of witnesses who gave evidence during the Case Study.
