“An Act to provide for support, administrative services and assistance for communities resident in Torres Strait or deemed so to be and for management of lands for use by those communities and for related purposes”(Act no. 52/1984). This act focused upon Island Councils and Boards as well as ‘assistance’ provided by the State to people it classified as ‘Islanders’. This act was repealed by the Local Government and Other Legislation (Indigenous Regional Councils) Amendment Act 2007 (Act No.59) on 15 March 2008.
