Ministering Children's League, Western Australian Branch

Details

The Ministering Children’s League was a British organisation founded in 1884, with branches operating globally and across Australia. The League conducted charitable work, such as supporting, fundraising for, and running various institutions such as hospitals, respite/convalescent homes, and children’s homes. The League was non-sectarian and included adult and child members. It operated with the objective that its members should do at least one good deed a day, and should promote an unselfish and charitable character.

The Western Australian branch of the League was established in 1891, initiated by Mrs H. D. Holmes and supported by a range of people with an interest in child and social welfare issues. It ran the Ministering Children’s League Convalescent Home at Cottesloe, and provided support to a number of other children’s homes. The Western Australian branch of the Ministering Children’s League was dissolved in 1957 and became the Ministering League of the Anglican Church, donating its accumulated funds to the Slow Learning Children’s Group.
