These records are part of Records of the Social Welfare Department and predecessors (1849 - c. 1987).
These brief minutes relate to all aspects of the business of this committee. Many entries relate to the cases of individual children under the care of the Council, including allegations of neglect of state wards, allegations of misconduct by state wards, absconding, transfers of children between institutions, training and further education for state wards, approvals of foster parents, and applications of birth parents to have their children released from council control. The minutes also include a small number of references to adoptions. These minutes are very similar to the minutes of the Gentlemen’s Committee, but deal with more issues relating to girls, including permission for state wards to marry. Many entries relate to the cases of individual girls under the care of the Council. Related Homes include Redruth Girls Reformatory (1897 – 1922), Edwardstown Industrial School (1898 – 1950) and Central Depot (1900 – 1965).
