Details

This series consists of two registers which record details about children placed in Nursing Homes registered under the Infant Life Protection Acts. Nursing Homes were private houses registered to care for children under the age of three years old, or under 6 years old from 1935. The rolls kept by nursing homes included details such as child’s name, sex, date of birth, details of parents or guardians (names, occupation, and residence), payment details, records of discharge or death of the child, and details of inspections and reports.

Access Conditions

Access to these registers is restricted for 100 years in order to protect personal privacy. To apply for access to these registers please contact Queensland State Archives.

The two registers in this series cover different locations and dates as follows:

Nursing Home Roll for Babinda, Bowern, Cairns, Charters Towers, Home Hill and Townsville (1912-1926)
Nursing Home Roll for Atherton, Ayr, Brandon, Bowen, Cairns, Charters Towers, Herberton, Innisfail, Tolga and Townsville (1924-1946)
