The building was situated at Herne Hill, Geelong. Built in 1885 and vacated in 1933, when the Orphanage moved to new premises at Belmont, Geelong.
In February 2008, a memorial service commemorated children formerly residing at Ballarat Orphanage who now rested at a grave site in the Ballarat New Cemetery, Private F Section.
