These records are part of Records of the South Australian Youth Training Centre (1940 - 1999).
This series includes records about the official handover of young people to the Children’s Courts or the custody of South Australian Police from South Australian Youth Training Centres. There are two sets of records in this series, which include similar information. One set of records, called ‘Personal disposition/property advice records’, are from the McNally Training Centre for the dates 1993-1996. These records make up to majority of this series, and include the name of the young person, their age, date of birth, police station or court involved, property belonging to the young person and a signature where property has been returned to them, and a note stating whether they needed to be returned to the Centre after the transfer. The other set is called ‘Receipt for mandate and/or person named thereon forms’,and come from the Magill Training Centre from 1977-1979. These records include the name of the young person, name of the police station, mandate number and date, physical condition of the young person, date and time of movement, and property belonging to the young person. This series also includes a variety of other records from Youth Training Centres, including: sick parade logs 1968-1974, postage stamp book 1940-1969, workshop supervisor book 1969-1971, checklists of nightshift handover procedures 1996 and property receipt books 1973-1974. At the time these records were archived, some correspondence from 1964-1980 was placed into file covers and called ‘Administration files’ and included in this series.
Access to the records in this series is restricted for 100 years in order to protect personal privacy. People mentioned in these records have a right to access information about themselves. To request access to these records please contact the Department for Child Protection Freedom of Information team.
There is a gap in the date-range of the ‘Personal disposition/property advice’ and ‘Receipt for mandate and/or person named thereon’ records in this series between 1979 and 1993. Those records that sit within this gap are also held by State Records South Australia, and can be found in the related series GRS/6643.
