Access Conditions

CatholicCare Hunter-Manning Social Services place great importance on the recording and filing of information about those to whom they extend and have extended ‘care’, and on the accessibility of this material to them and their families. CatholicCare understand that the personal and family records they hold are a vital source to help those formerly in ‘care’ to trace their family histories and tell their family stories. CatholicCare does not charge for the search and retrieval of records or the cost of copying and postage.

CatholicCare Social Services Hunter- Manning manages records and files from Bishop Murray Memorial Home (Monte Pio), Murray- Dwyer Boys’ Home, Murray-Dwyer Group Homes and Centacare Foster Care Programs.

The content of the files varies, and some of the earlier records are limited to name and date of birth. Over time, the information recorded became more detailed. Information from the files has been collated into an electronic database to better enable information to be accessed from the files. Photographs dating from the 1920s are included in some individual files. A collection of photographs in the electronic database has been included in albums, and these can be made available upon request.

The collection comprises four Series of records. They are:
