State Records of South Australia hold a small collection of records about the Cavan Training Centre and the young people who attended the centre. Card index relating to court appearances – Cavan Training Centre, 1990-1994 (GRS/12663)
These index cards contain details about court appearances for young people detained at Cavan Training Centre. They include client name, date of birth, Aboriginality, name of social worker, district centre and region where the case is being managed, admission and discharge dates for Cavan, type of offence the young person is charged with, date of court appearance, type of court, bail details, and court orders. As these records date from 1990 (three years before Cavan Training Centre opened) it is possible that they also contain information about young people admitted to the South Australian Youth Training Centre.
Population Reports – Cavan Training Centre, 1996-2001 (GRS/12662)
These reports contain information about the number of residents in each unit at Cavan Training Centre, including details about each resident by unit including their name, gender, cultural, type of court order, and any absences.
Management Minutes – Cavan Training Centre 1993-2004 (GRS/6856)
These records include minutes and papers from regular meetings of senior staff at Cavan Training Centre. They include reports and discussions about operational and administrative matters relating to the Centre, and sometimes discuss the details of individual resident’s cases.
