Details

The State Records Office of Western Australia holds a collection of records created by the Princess Margaret Hospital for Children, and its predecessor, the Perth Children’s Hospital. The collection includes a number of records relevant to children admitted to the hospital, such as admission and discharge registers, visitors books, operation journals and registers, anaesthetic registers, and orthotics registers. This collection also includes records about nurses and staffing, minutes of the board of management and hospital committees, and records about hospital buildings.

  • Register – Outpatient Theatre Operations, 1943 – 1982. Contains details of operations performed at the hospital, including patient name, doctor name, date of procedure, and procedure performed. These records are restricted for 100 years. SROWA reference S1396.
  • Admission/Discharge Registers, 1958 – 1978. Contains details of children admitted to and discharged from Princess Margaret Hospital for Children, including date, name of patient, name of doctor/medical officer, diagnosis, and department/ward admitted to. This series contains two registers for casualty admissions, as well as an anaesthetic register including details of operations such as type of operation, name of surgeon, and anaesthetic administered.   • Visitors Book, 1909 – 1912 & 1953 – 1954. Contains details of people visiting the Princess Margaret Hospital for children. These records are open access. SROWA reference S4761.
  • Inpatient Operation Journals, 1909 – 1966. Contains details of operations performed at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children, including date, patient name, patient age, anaesthetic administered, nature of operation, name of surgeon, name of anaesthetist, and additional remarks.   • Anaesthetic Register, 1966 – 1967. Contains details of anaesthetic delivered to patients, including date, name of patient, age of patient, operation performed, name of surgeon, time of operation, anaesthetic administered, and other comments.   • Orthotics Register, 1958 – 1966. Contains details of orthotics fitted at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children, including name of patient, date, and type of orthotic issued/fitted. These records are restricted for 100 years. SROWA reference S4768.
