Renwick Association Inc

Details

The Renwick Association was an organisation of people who were associated with the Mittagong cottage homes and Renwick, from 1885 to 1994. Its members included former residents (‘Govos’), former workers and house parents, as well as family members and local people who are interested in the history of this institution. The Renwick Association was incorporated on 15 September 2011.

The Renwick Association began when historian and Mittagong resident Leonie Knapman became interested in the Mittagong site, having coached soccer with Renwick boys as a young mother. She organised a reunion in 2005, attended by hundreds of former residents, and since then has collected oral histories, plans, reports and other forms of documentation about the site.

A former resident of Renwick, Bill Anson, has run a website since 2005 that contains information about the homes and invites contact from former residents.

In April 2014 the Sydney Morning Herald reported this group was lobbying for the preservation of the remaining Mittagong cottages in the Renwick complex as a museum.
