The Babies' Hospital Association

The Babies’ Hospital Association was established in 1913, by a group of prominent philanthropic women and concerned Adelaide doctors. They initially established a home for sick infants at Quambi Nursing Home in North Adelaide. In 1915 they established the Babies’ Hospital at St Peters and in 1917, the Mareeba Babies’ Hospital. The Association disbanded in 1951 at which time the Mareeba Babies’ Hospital came under the control of the Adelaide Children’s Hospital.

The Babies’ Hospital Association came about in 1913 when a group of prominent philanthropic ladies and concerned Adelaide doctors formed a committee to address the lack of hospital accommodation for sick infants under two years of age.
